Pet Vaccinations in Derby, KS
At El Paso Animal Hospital, we offer a wide range of vaccines to help guard your pet from a world full of illnesses. Just like humans, pets are vulnerable to spreadable sickness without protection.
Vaccinating your best friend can lead to your pet living a long and healthy life. Here at El Paso Animal Hospital, we can help ward off some of the most common deadly diseases your dog may face. As a puppy, your dog needs extra protection to prevent complications later on in life. The DHPP vaccination is a core vaccination that covers canine distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus. Puppies are also susceptible to coronavirus, an intestinal disease, that can be prevented with a vaccination. Additional vaccines depending on your dog's age and lifestyle include rabies, leptospirosis, and Bordetella (kennel cough).
While it is possible for cats to develop infections from certain strains of influenza, it is rare. What is commonly referred to as "cat flu" is caused by one or both of two common viruses: feline viral rhinotracheitis and calicivirus. Unlike in dogs, these viruses are not new and are included in the core schedule of vaccinations for cats as the FVRCP vaccine.
The FVRCP vaccine also protects against panleukopenia, or feline distemper. Panleukopenia is a potentially fatal disease that attacks bone marrow and the intestinal tract. Symptoms include severe vomiting and diarrhea.
We also offer a feline leukemia virus vaccine. Feline Leukemia Virus, or FeLV for short, comprises the immune system and carries a high death rate; however, most cats are able to resist the disease as they grow older.
