Common Dermatology Problems Seen in Pets

When someone comes to see us at the El Paso Animal Hospital, there are a number of common problems that we see. Some of the most common issues faced by our pets include:

Sores: Sores are among the most common reasons why pets develop issues with their skin. Sores can arise in dogs for a number of reasons. Sometimes, dogs develop pressure ulcers which lead to skin breakdown. In other cases, dogs develop sores because they have an infection on the surface of their skin. Other dogs might even have an autoimmune condition. Trust our vet team to handle this issue.

Hair Loss: Hair loss is another common skin problem that we see in our offices. Hair loss can develop for many reasons; however, the most common is because pets constantly itch and scratch a certain area, causing their hair to fall out. Our medical team will figure out why the animal is itching and scratching, putting a stop to it and allowing the hair to grow back.

Rashes: We also see a lot of rashes. Often, these don't show up until the dog's hair is already falling out. Then, scabs are already present underneath. A rash can develop for a number of reasons. Sometimes, dogs have a virus and a rash is the natural response to it. In other cases, rashes are a sign of allergies and need to be addressed. We know that rashes come in many shapes and forms. We can get to the bottom of it.

These are only a few of the many skin problems in dogs that we see. This irritation can be serious and should be addressed by a trained veterinarian.
